Editors

Rebecca Hoffman, MD

Rebecca is a general surgery resident at the Hospital of University of Pennsylvania. She has been involved in multiple USMLE-Rx projects prior to becoming an editor for this revision team. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from Haverford College in 2005, and with a medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 2010. Rebecca plans to pursue a career in surgical oncology, and is also interested in surgical and medical education. Outside of work, Rebecca enjoys playing all types of sports, being in the outdoors, watching movies, and traveling.

 
 

Lauren de Leon, MD

Lauren is a recent graduate of the Alpert Medical School of Brown University. She is finishing her internship year in internal medicine and loving it. She enjoys traveling, cooking, and searching for the perfect dumpling. In terms of medical career, Lauren is debating between gastroenterology and palliative/end of life care.

Utkarsh Acharya, DO

Utkarsh graduated with a Bachelors of Science degree in biology from Wilmington College and earned his medical degree at Ohio University. He completed his internship at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine and is presently in his final year of internal medicine residency at Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. As a resident, Utkarsh earned the Arnold P. Gold Humanism and Excellence in Teaching Award and was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society as well as Alpha Omega Alpha. He will be pursuing a hematology/oncology fellowship at the University of Arizona Cancer Center starting July 2012. His professional interests include academic medicine, research, medical writing, and mentoring.

 
 

John P. Fischer, MD

John graduated with honors and Phi Beta Kappa from Hamilton College in 2005. He earned his medical degree at the State University of New York Upstate College of Medicine, earning Alpha Omega Alpha and magna cum laude honors. John is currently a third-year resident in the Integrated Plastic Surgery Program at Penn and plans on pursuing a career in reconstructive microsurgery. He enjoys spending time with his wife and new daughter.

 
 

Michael R. King, MD

Originally from Naperville, Ill., Mike attended college at the University of Illinois with a major in molecular biology. After some time doing research in Versailles, France, he joined the class of 2011 at the University of Chicago’s Pritzker School of Medicine. He is currently completing his internship at Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia and will then start residency in anesthesiology at Massachusetts General Hospital. Mike’s hobbies include traveling, reading, and running.

 
 

Benjamin Kuritzky, MD

Ben graduated from The Ohio State University in 2006 with a degree in microbiology and then attended the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. After graduation, he moved to Providence, R.I., where he is currently a second-year internal medicine resident. He is considering pursuing a fellowship in hematology/oncology or cardiology. In his free time, Ben enjoys golfing, reading, and watching his Buckeyes beat the Wolverines each November.

 
 

Tiffany F. Lin, MD

Tiffany is from Maryland and graduated from Rice University with a Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry and cell biology in 2005. She went on to Baylor College of Medicine to earn her medical degree in 2009 with a certificate in international health. She then moved to the University of Pennsylvania and Children's Hospital of Philadelphia for her pediatrics residency. Tiffany will be pursuing an academic career in pediatric hematology/oncology and education. She enjoys being outdoors, cooking for friends, playing and listening to music, and being with family.

 
 

Caitlin Loomis, MD

Caitlin graduated from Princeton University in 2004 with a degree in comparative literature. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 2009 and was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. Caitlin is currently a third-year resident in neurology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

 
 

Olugbenga T. Okusanya, MD

Gbenga graduated from Harvard University in 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors in neurobiology. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 2009, and was lucky enough to stay at Penn for training in general surgery. Gbenga plans to pursue a career in academic thoracic surgery. He enjoys dancing, poker, and running.

 
 

Jarrod Predina, MD, MSTR

Jarrod graduated from Case Western Reserve University in 2006 with Bachelors of Arts degrees in biology and chemistry. He earned his medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, where he also earned a Master of Science in Translational Research. Jarrod will be beginning his general surgery training at Massachusetts General Hospital in 2012 and plans to pursue a career in general thoracic surgery. In his spare time he enjoys playing soccer, watching college sports, and travelling.

 
 

Eric K. Shang, MD

Eric graduated from Swarthmore College in 2004 with degrees in economics and mathematics. He then attended the University of Maryland School of Medicine, where he graduated in 2008, earning Alpha Omega Alpha honors. Currently, Eric is undertaking a general surgery residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and is considering careers in both trauma and vascular surgery. In his free hours, he enjoys tinkering with computers and spending time with his wife and son.

 
 

Maneesh H. Singh, MD

Maneesh graduated from Stanford University with a Bachelor of Science degree in biological sciences with honors in neurobiology in 2006, and continued on at Stanford School of Medicine to earn his medical degree in 2010. He is currently a second-year resident in internal medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania with plans to apply for fellowship in gastroenterology. In his free time Maneesh enjoys travelling, cycling, tennis, and cooking

Michael graduated magna cum laude from the State University of New York at Binghamton in 2006 with a Bachelors of Science degree in psychobiology. He went on to earn his medical degree from SUNY Upstate College of Medicine, graduating cum laude and earning Alpha Omega Alpha honors. Michael is currently a second-year resident in internal medicine at Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and plans on applying for a cardiology fellowship in the coming months. Michael enjoys restaurants and cooking, golfing, racket sports, and watching movies.

 
 

Christian Squillante, MD

Christian is from New York and graduated from Penn State in 2005 with degrees in biology and psychology. He earned his medical degree from Penn State in 2009 and completed the residency program in internal medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He will be starting a fellowship in hematology/oncology at Penn starting July 2012. In his spare time, Christian enjoys music, great food and restaurants, running, and wine tasting.

 
 

Anthony J. Taglienti, MD

Tony graduated from Yale University, magna cum laude, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology. He completed the Columbia University Postbaccalaureate Premedical Studies Program, and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, earning Alpha Omega Alpha honors. He stayed on at Penn for his plastic surgery residency, and aspires to an academic career in pediatric plastic surgery. Tony enjoys singing, cooking, and staying up-to-date with the latest Hollywood gossip.

 
 

Jeffrey C. Thompson, MD

Jeffrey graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor of Science degree in biomedical sciences. He continued to the University of Alabama School of Medicine, where he earned his medical degree with Alpha Omega Alpha honors in 2010. Jeffrey is currently a second-year resident in internal medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He plans to pursue a career in pulmonary and critical care medicine. In his free time, Jeffrey enjoys running, hiking, reading, playing tennis, and traveling.

 
 

Brant W. Ullery, MD

Brant is a native of Apple Valley, Minn. He graduated with honors from Northwestern University and completed his medical education at Weill Medical College of Cornell University in New York City. Brant is finishing his fourth year of general surgery training at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He plans on pursuing fellowship training in vascular surgery. Brant looks forward to returning to his wife's West Coast roots for fellowship and welcoming his first baby in the coming year (who is destined to be an Oregon Ducks fan).

 
 

Jennifer L. Weinberg, MD, MBE

Jennifer graduated from Cedar Crest College with Bachelor of Science degrees in behavioral psychology and mathematics. After completing postbaccalaureate premedical studies at Bryn Mawr College, she went on to graduate from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, where she also earned a Masters Degree in Bioethics. Jennifer currently is a preventive medicine resident at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She enjoys traveling, community service, dancing, and yoga.

 
 

Jason W. Yu, DMD, MD

Jason graduated from Boston University with a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree in 2006. He then completed an internship in oral & maxillofacial surgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in 2007. He earned his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 2010. Currently, Jason is a fifth-year resident in oral & maxillofacial surgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

Randi Smith, MD, MPH

Randi is a general surgery resident at the University of California, San Francisco East Bay Program in Oakland. She completed her medical education at UCSF. Prior to beginning her surgical residency, she completed a Master's Degree in Public Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Randi’s academic interests include trauma surgery, critical care, injury prevention, global health, and the utilization of ultrasound for the diagnosis of injury in resource-limited settings. She plans to pursue a fellowship in trauma/surgical critical care at the completion of her postgraduate training.
